Help and resources for electrician issues in Malaysia

Before you hire an electrician in Malaysia, or if a job has already gone wrong, it helps to know which official bodies actually deal with these issues. The list below pulls together real government agencies, consumer protection channels and legal aid services that consumers and contractors alike can turn to, rather than generic advice sites.

Each entry covers what the organisation actually does, so you can go straight to the one that matches your situation, whether that's verifying a wireman's competency certificate or filing a formal claim against a contractor.

Government & regulatory

  • Suruhanjaya Tenaga (Energy Commission of Malaysia)

Regulates and licenses electricity supply activities and certifies Electrical Competent Persons (Wiremen, Chargemen, Electrical Engineers, Electrical Supervisors) who are legally required to carry out electrical wiring and installation work in Malaysia. Consumers can use it to verify an electrician's competency certificate.

A statutory tribunal under the Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living that acts as an alternative to civil courts for consumers filing redress claims against manufacturers, sellers or service providers under the Consumer Protection Act 1999. Useful for disputes over defective or substandard electrical work.

  • National Consumer Complaints Centre (NCCC)

A non-governmental consumer complaints centre dedicated to addressing consumer complaints and promoting consumer rights, offering advice and facilitating resolutions between consumers and businesses.
